Senior Technician 

1.0 FTE - 37 HOURS 

The Library, Technology and Information (LTI) Service department are seeking to recruit a Senior Technician to work in our IT Operations team.

The Senior Technician takes the operational lead at either Cheltenham or Gloucester to ensure that the day-to-day IT service provision to staff and students is fit-for purpose.  The postholder is the lead technician in that area and will build strong working relationships with the principal School Technicians (and relevant academic staff) on that campus.  The postholder will be expected to understand the particular challenges of each of the Subject Communities on their designated campus.

The postholder will take responsibility for task assignment of technical work with the relevant teams to ensure that individual incidents and requests (requiring support from the first-line team) are resolved according to the service level agreement.  The Senior Technician is also responsible for working with the IT Operations Manager on the allocation of resources to project work, and will work collaboratively with the other Senior Technician to ensure that work at all locations can proceed effectively given the different workload pressures at each campus.

Key Skills:

First Line IT Experience – You’ll need to have significant experience of working within the area of First Line IT with a particular emphasis on Windows, MacOS, Office 365, Audio-Visual and Networking technologies. As well as undertaking First Line IT tasks, you’ll be working as part of a small team to ensure our IT Operation processes are fit for purpose and ensuring First Line IT colleagues are suitably trained and knowledgeable about their responsibilities.

Organisation & Workload Management – You will need to be effective at working on tasks both within a team and on your own using your own initiative. You will have responsibility for campus based IT projects (example – workstation rollouts) and need to have the ability to ensure these projects are delivered on time and to user and department requirements. You will need to be able to prioritise your workload and adapt to any unforeseen circumstances.

Communication – In the role you will be in regular contact with IT Technicians, skilled IT specialists as well as technical (and non-technical) University staff and students. The ability to communicate effectively to all of these people is essential.

Enthusiastic Approach – An enthusiastic approach with a dedication to service improvement is key to this role. You will encounter all aspects of IT and have a customer focused mind-set with a passion to troubleshoot issues. You will have the flexibility to work across all Cheltenham and Gloucester based locations as and when required.

Leadership – You’ll be line managing a small team of IT Technicians, supporting and helping them, training them on new and existing processes as well as promoting a positive workplace culture and environment.
