Head of Commercial and Procurement

 

Pittville Campus, Cheltenham

 

The University of Gloucestershire is embarking on an exciting journey that is seeking to transform the institution. The university has real opportunities over the next few years, building on its strong foundations in delivering excellent education outcomes in business, computing, education, arts and creative and health and social care. With a new City Campus in Gloucester and Cyber Hub in Cheltenham, this role will need to seize the opportunity these projects bring, working with regional, national and international partners.

 

 

About the Department

 

As part of the university’s transformation journey, we have taken time to review and redesign our leadership team to ensure we have a simple, streamlined and consistent approach that keeps students at the heart of everything we do.

 

The role sits within the CFO function which is responsible for driving the university’s commercial, finance, governance, transformation and project management activities. With the new model of a centralised procurement, the Head of Commercial and Procurement will be responsible for commercial and procurement activities across the University, ensuring best practice is adopted, resulting in high standards of performance, cost effectiveness, and resource efficiency. The post has leadership responsibility for procurement and, contract management and the institution’s procurement and commercial strategies. 

 

About the role

 

This role will form a pivotal part of university leadership, having the opportunity to develop and influence a university-wide focus in taking a more commercial approach across all of its activities. It’s a great opportunity for a capable individual to support and lead in the delivery of a multi-million pipeline of procurements, creating specific sourcing strategies, category plans with the key aim to deliver value for money for our organisation.

 

The person will foster building relationships with senior contract business owners across the organisation to ensure joined up commercial management. It will work in partnerships to secure design of services and value for money, with responsibility for a diverse portfolio of categories, utilising procurement frameworks to achieve the most cost-efficient solution. To succeed in this role, the job holder will effectively collaborate with colleagues supporting large scale tender submissions ensuring commercial integrity and compliance.

 

This opportunity couldn’t arrive at a more exciting time, as well as developing a university commercial strategy and delivering measurable commercial value, the role will create a new procurement team to cover a newly designed central approach to the university’s procurement activities. This team will develop common approach to market through agreed commodity procurement strategies and tailored annual commodity plans and develop market engagement tools and strategies to ensure markets are understood prior to commencing procurement.

 

The University offers a broad range of services under contract, from research to learning provision on a global basis, as well as providing services that are grant funded, both from UK and international sources. This post will have the responsibility for assuring the quality and business efficacy of any contracts that the University enters into as a provider of services.
