This role is based across all of our campuses in Cheltenham and Gloucester

An interesting and challenging opportunity has arisen to join the University’s Student Experience Directorate.

The Council of the University, working with the Diocese of Gloucester, is seeking to appoint a Senior Chaplain.  The role is part of the wider leadership team for student wellbeing.

The Senior Chaplain is responsible for the leadership of our multi-faith Chaplaincy. Leading a team of 3 Chaplains, supported by a number of volunteer Associate Chaplains and with a Sanctuary Space on each campus, the service provides our students with personal support and guidance, a programme of activities, and the opportunity to explore faith and spirituality.

Our Chaplaincy is successfully integrated into our student experience offer, consistently highly regarded by our student body, and has the full support of the University’s senior management.

The ideal candidate will need to have experience of service/team management and leadership, along with excellent pastoral and interpersonal skills, with the ability to enthuse and offer support to students. Experience of working with client groups from diverse backgrounds, and being able to demonstrate an understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion is key.

The Senior Chaplain is required to be an ordained member of the Church of England or a church in communion with it and once appointed will be licensed by the Bishop of Gloucester as a priest of the diocese and encouraged to play a full part in its life.
