This is a full time postion, where you will be based at Francis Close Hall (FCH) but will be required to work across all campuses in both Cheltenham and Gloucester.
An interesting and challenging opportunity has arisen to join the Student Experience Directorate in a key leadership role.
The Head of Student Wellbeing is responsible for the leadership for a number of key services that support our students, including Chaplaincy, Counselling, Disability Services, Mental Health Advice, Money Advice, and the General Welfare Support team. In addition to the management responsibility for these teams, the role leads on a number of strategic themes such as welfare-related policy development, managing procedures linked to ‘students at risk’, and the University’s response to sector expectations including the Mental Health Charter, and the OfS E6 regulations centred on the prevention of sexual misconduct. In addition the Head of Student Wellbeing plays a key role in supporting colleagues across Schools and Professional Services when they are seeking advice and guidance when faced with complex student situations.
In partnership with other senior Directorate colleagues the Head of Student Wellbeing helps to provide appropriate support to students dealing with welfare,crisis, or emergency situations, and to staff members who may be supporting them. The role also helps to deliver a 24/7 on-call service in relation to significantstudent welfare situations.
The ideal candidate will have recent and relevant experience leading a student-facing service within the University sector, and have relevant professional proven expertise in supporting students with mental health difficulties, and students with disabilities. It is expected that applicants will have proven experience of managing complex casework, and an understanding of risk.
The ability to make decisions in challenging circumstances, to be an effective communicator to a wide range of stakeholders, and to understand the importance of equity and diversity are all critical.
