Senior Technician
IT Services
1.0FTE, 37 hours per week
The IT Services department are seeking to recruit a Senior IT Technician to work in our IT Operations team.
The Senior IT Technician is responsible for leading & managing a team of IT Technicians who provide first line IT support across all University campuses & locations. The postholder will oversee the day-to-day operations of the team, ensuring workload is allocated effectively and resolved to SLA timescales & user satisfaction.
As well as providing a hands-on role in delivering first line IT support to University staff & students, the Senior IT Technician is tasked with ensuring campus IT support is covered and the IT technician team are supported in delivering their workload priorities. The role also works with other teams within IT Services to ensure technician resource can be allocated to project work such as computer upgrades, specialist lab replacements as well as other IT auditing & management tasks.
Key Skills:
First Line IT Experience – You’ll need to have significant experience of working within the area of First Line IT with a particular emphasis on supporting Windows, MacOS, Office 365, Audio-Visual and Networking technologies.
Organisation & Workload Management – You will need to be effective at working on tasks both within a team and on your own using your own initiative. As well as being able to prioritise your own workload, you will need to ensure the IT Technicians are clear on their priorities and can manage their workload efficiently and work to SLA & project requirements.
Communication – In the role you will be in regular contact with IT Technicians, skilled IT specialists as well as technical (and non-technical) University staff and students. The ability to communicate effectively to all of these people is essential.
Customer Focused & Enthusiastic Approach – An enthusiastic approach with a dedication to service improvement is key to this role. You will encounter all aspects of IT and need to have a customer focused mind-set with a passion to troubleshoot issues. You will have the flexibility to work across all Cheltenham and Gloucester based locations as and when required.
Leadership – You’ll be line managing our IT Technicians, supporting and helping them on new and existing processes as well as promoting a positive workplace culture and environment.
