Description

Research Assistant/ Treescapes Programme Officer

CCRI

Francis Close Hall Campus, Cheltenham

1.0FTE, 37 hours per week

Fixed Term contract to 28/02/2025

The CCRI at the University of Gloucestershire seeks to appoint an enthusiastic candidate with a post graduate qualification and an interest in impactful research programmes that makes a positive contribution to rural policies, economies, and communities.

The CCRI at the University of Gloucestershire is seeking to appoint a Programme Officer/Research Assistant to primarily support Dr Julie Urquhart in her role as Ambassador for the UKRI (NERC, ESRC, AHRC) programme ‘The Future of UK Treescapes’ (uktreescapes.org). Working together with Dr Urquhart and the Programme Manager and Communications Officer, the role will support the production of the programme outputs (e.g. policy and practice research notes, a published programme final report, programme film, academic journal special issues). This will involve liaising regularly with project leads and their teams (18 Projects + 9 Fellows) to coordinate their contributions to the outputs and to support the team to deliver all outputs. Other tasks will involve coordinating the collection of monitoring and evaluation information from projects for final reporting to the Programme Executive Board, as well as coordinating project stakeholder engagement and knowledge exchange events such as webinars. The Programme Officer will also support the Communications Officer and wider team in delivering the final Treescapes conference in Glasgow in June 2024 and other duties as needed to support the Ambassador team.

Additionally, the post will support the delivery of other existing and new contract and grant-funded research projects and will contribute to the wider work of the Institute. This may include working on tree/forestry related projects such as the evaluation of Defra’s Tree Health Pilot grant scheme. Other projects assigned to this role will depend on the particular interests and skills of the appointed person, but may involve quantitative and qualitative research methods.

This post would suit a post-doctoral candidate interested in gaining experience of coordination of a large research programme alongside engaging in active research. The post requires project management experience, an interest in trees and woodlands, as well as proven research skills and experience. The post provides the opportunity for exciting external liaison, with interfaces to UK government, academia, the forest industry, NGOs and civil society. It is anticipated that 50% of the post would be the Treescapes Programme Officer and 50% as a Research Assistant on CCRI research projects.
