Arts, Health and Wellbeing Centre: Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board Funded PhD Studentships

The University of Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire Integrated Care System (ICS) are offering two funded PhD opportunities. Together we are supporting the opportunity for staff working in Gloucestershire Integrated Care System or the University of Gloucestershire to apply for funding to undertake an area of doctoral study and research within the University’s new Arts, Health and Wellbeing Centre.

The Arts, Health and Wellbeing Centre is a new area within the vibrant School of Health where we embed research in all of our activities, ensuring that students and staff benefit from and contribute to vibrant subject communities, engaged in fundamental and applied research. The Arts, Health and Wellbeing Centre are undertaking research and evaluation projects which are funded and partnered by Gloucestershire Integrated Care System.

PhD offer area 1

(This is not considered the PhD research title but the topic area).

Research to ascertain how primary healthcare professionals perceive, engage with, and prescribe Creative Health interventions (Arts on Prescription) through Social Prescribing in Gloucestershire.

 

PhD offer area 2

(This is not considered the PhD research title but the broad topic area)

Research that aligns with and aims to support One Gloucestershire’s Integrated Care System’s (ICS) key priorities areas.

Increase support for people living with major health conditions, focusing more on earlier diagnosis, and preventing people from getting ill in the first place.

Support primary care (GP services) to build resilience, improve access to care, and increase workforce recruitment and retention.

Reduce backlogs for people waiting for assessment as well as hospital treatment.

Creating a financially sustainable health and care system.

 

Funding information (full and part time options)

 

Funded by Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board, the funding available will pay the university fees and support time out of the workplace to undertake your research.

The budget for the fees is to a maximum of £20,400 which will be delivered either over a period of 4 years for full time study, or 6 years for part time study

The budget for the *stipend is a maximum of £74,488 which will be delivered either over a period of 4 years for full time study, or 6 years for part time study

The allocated budget cannot be exceeded.

 

*The stipend is not intended to cover salary costs but will form the basis of additional support for the candidate and employer. The exact form this will take will be subject to a three-way agreement between the University of Gloucestershire, the employer and the candidate on acceptance on to the programme of study.

 

 

We are seeking applications from those who have an interest in undertaking a higher level of academic study and carrying out original research within Gloucestershire, which benefits the population health of those living in the county.

 

Successful candidates will be encouraged and supported to take an innovative approach to their study that may integrate, as appropriate, the use of creative methods and/or the production of publications as part of the project.

 

The University of Gloucestershire includes taught research skills training modules within these PhD studies.

 

We require you to share your research findings with others in the ICS and the University of Gloucestershire, publish and showcase your research.

Applications will be through an expression of interest letter of no more than 1000 words clearly outlining your interest within the research project area you would like to undertake, and explaining why this is of interest to you.

 

You should make it clear in your application which PhD studentship offer area you are applying for.

In your application, please include:

Expression of interest letter (max 1000 words) outlining your interest within the PhD topic area you have selected and why. Along with reasoning why you would like to do doctoral studies and what qualifications/experience you already have that make you eligible to study at this level

Your CV including evidence of your prior skills and learning, what role you currently have and where you work

Any published work such as journals and conference articles if available

Confirmation of support from your manager to undertake these studies.

 

The successful candidate(s) who secures one of these funded PhD studentships must also:

Hold a Master's level degree or equivalent in post-graduate study

Work within Gloucestershire’s Integrated Care system or the University of Gloucestershire

Be able to demonstrate they have current eligibility to work in the UK for the duration of the PhD (up to six years)

Have excellent communication skills and demonstrable success when working in a team environment.

Have an understanding of the importance of equity and diversity within an organisation and a commitment to helping create an inclusive culture
