Description
Professor in Cyber Security
The
University’s £3.6m Cyber & Digital Innovation Centre (C11) in
Berkeley Green, offers a specialist secure environment for businesses and
sector-leading testing and research. The University is also a key partner in
the Golden Valley Development - home to Cyber Central UK.
Establishing one of the first post-Brexit university partnerships
in Europe, the University has recently partnered with a private University in
Germany, the Fachhochschule des Mittlestandes/University of Applied Sciences (FHM)
to set up a £4m Cyber and Digital
Innovation Centre in Duren. We are looking to recruit a Professor of
Cyber Security to lead the development and delivery of the Centre on behalf of
the University, contributing to the set up and delivery of University
franchised teaching programmes, and support the School’s large portfolio of
activities in this area.We are looking for an enthusiastic cyber security
expert with a strong track record of research and knowledge exchange outputs in
one or more areas allied to cyber security, including secure networks, malware
analysis, applications of artificial intelligence in cyber security, advanced
persistent threats and blockchain technology.
This is important to lead the developments of the University’s campus in
Cheltenham as well as at the Duren Centre and, more generally, to drive growth
in student numbers, to attract the right staff in the future, and also to work
effectively at the interface with internal and external stakeholders,
especially with FHM in Germany. This
requires regular travelling to Duren and an eligibility to work in Germany. The
University will assist with the visa application process. Although the medium
of instruction in the Duren Centre will be English, the ability to speak German
would be a significant advantage.
Given the central significance in relation to student
employability, business development, and how we shape our curricula in all
courses in the School, this post will be central to all of these areas of
School business.
Beyond the rationale from a subject perspective, the other main
rationale is to bolster the senior team in the School. There will be an expectation of significant
contribution to the School leadership, working closely with the Head of School
to ensure the School is at the leading edge of cyber security developments, and
also to ensure the extensive specialist facilities are developed in line with
contemporary curricula. It is a normal
expectation that the post holder will undertake line management, and also be
able to step into all areas of School business as required. We expect the School to have several outputs
in this area in the next REF submission, and we expect this post holder to make
a significant contribution to this submission through their research and
impacts.
You will be required to provide contact information for three referees, of at
least equal seniority to the post applied for and with corresponding
title. At least two of the referees must be external to the University of
Gloucestershire. Candidates must submit a completed application form and a Curriculum Vitea
(of no more than five pages) plus a statement of not more than 2,000 words
indicating clearly how they meet the requirements of the post through their
outputs, impacts and outcomes. This
2,000 word statement will be used by the interview panel and shared with the
referees, as a basis for the determination of the title commensurate with the
grade and pathway.
Closing Date: 12th December 2021
Interview Date: 18th January 2022
The University understands the benefits of recruiting a diverse
range of people and welcomes applications from under-represented sections of
the community.
We are proud to be a Disability Confident Leader, guaranteeing to
offer an interview to anyone who meets the definition of disability set out in
the Equality Act 2010 and who meets all of the essential criteria contained
within the person specification.
