Description

MASTERS BY RESEARCH IN PSYCHOLOGY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF
GLOUCESTERSHIRE (CHELTENHAM) STARTING IN OCTOBER 2021.

The University of Gloucestershire is offering a Masters by Research in Psychology covering the full payment of tuition fees for home students for two years and a stipend of £15,285 for one year to conduct research into cognitive fatigue.

Cognitive fatigue involves deficits affecting motivation, emotion, cognition and behaviour, and thus can be incredibly debilitating. It can result from numerous conditions including traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory or infectious diseases, cancer, neurological disorders, and, most recently, ‘long COVID’. Due to the complex interplay of deficits and impairments involved, it can be very difficult to accurately measure cognitive fatigue. As such, the Masters by Research project will investigate the use of an objective, computerised tool that can track cognitive fatigue over time. This could not only help with planning return to work protocols for those who are looking to return to work after medical leave, but could also be used more generally to help identify the potential for ‘burnout’ before it happens. There may be an opportunity to upgrade to PhD at a later stage.

Applicants must have (or be eligible for) Graduate Basis for Registration with the British Psychological Society, and should be competent with quantitative methods and analyses.
