Description
PhD STUDENTSHIP IN PSYCHOLOGY AT THE
UNIVERSITY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE (CHELTENHAM) STARTING 1 FEBRUARY 2021
The University of Gloucestershire has the opportunity to
provide a full time studentship for a PhD in Psychology to support work in the
area of the CV19 Heroes project, to be
supervised by Dr Rachel Sumner and Dr Elaine Kinsella (University of Limerick).
Areas covered include the development and testing of a novel form of
understanding burnout in frontline workers. The studentship comes with a
bursary of £500 per month for the duration of the PhD.
The CV19Heroes project, a collaborative project between UoG
and the University of Limerick in Ireland, was established in March 2020 to
track the wellbeing of frontline workers from all sectors during the pandemic.
Findings from the CV19 Heroes project have shown (perhaps not unexpectedly)
that our frontline workers have been experiencing incredibly demanding
scenarios in recent months. However, what is particularly novel and interesting
about these findings, is that some of the struggles they have experienced have
been driven, in part, by the broader social and contextual elements of working
during the pandemic. The proposed work will develop this area of investigation
further, allowing the opportunity to draw together literature in the field to
develop a model for frontline working stress and then test it empirically. It
is hoped that the development of a frontline work stress model will provide a
significant foundation for future work into understanding how best to support
the phenomenal efforts of those on the frontline during public health crises to
come.
Applicants must have a undergraduate degree in Psychology,
Public Health, or related discipline of at least 2:1 standard or equivalent,
and an MSc in Psychology (or related discipline) of at least Merit standard.
The project will employ mixed methods, and so familiarity with SPSS and with
qualitative methodologies is essential.
