Professor of Public Protection

1.0 FTE 

Based at Francis Close Hall Campus 

The Professor will offer a significant profile of research and impact in the area of Public Protection.  As an independent researcher they will produce scholarly outputs recognised as internationally excellent or world leading.  By disseminating findings from research to professionals and the public at large they will also generate significant impact on Public Protection policy and practice within the UK and beyond.

 

Reporting directly to the Head of School and working alongside other senior colleagues, the Professor will establish the University’s status as a leading source of expertise in Public Protection issues, building a team of collaborating researchers and students within the University as well as partnerships with other academic, public, commercial and third sector organisations.  Their research activity will contribute to development of the School’s academic portfolio relating to Public Protection.

 

Through scholarly outputs and impact generation they will make an important contribution to the success of the relevant Unit(s) of Assessment within the Social Sciences subject community.  They will secure grants, lead research programmes, and generate business income through conducting knowledge exchange activities including training events and consultancy exercises.

 

The Professor’s media activity, contributions to the University’s programme of science communication and outreach, and other high profile public activities will make a significant contribution to the wider recognition and reputation of the University.

 

The Professor will be expected to contribute to the full range of other activities undertaken by academic colleagues, including teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; acting as a Personal Tutor; generating opportunities to develop students’ employability; student recruitment and outreach; academic administration; and programme leadership.  They will contribute to recruiting, supervising and examining research students.

 

To be awarded the title of Professor, the successful candidate will meet the University criteria for this level of appointment as detailed within the University’s Academic Role Profiles (Grade 10 – Teaching and Research pathway).
