Junior Systems Developer 

1.0 FTE – 37 Hours per week


The Library, Technology and Information (LTI) Service are seeking to appoint a Junior System Developers to work on software projects as a 12-month placement.

A key element of the role is to work in partnership with Academic Development Unit (ADU) to ensure the systems support enhancements to the University’s academic practice. As part of a team that work to Agile principles, you will be involved in an exciting range of developments including the chance to work on some flagship products to streamline and enhance service.

You will be an adaptable and proactive individual, with experience in PHP and a SQL. The work will be varied and ideally requires candidates with experience of developing software that uses relational databases. A track record in delivering application developments to time is important, as is keeping up to date with latest regulations such as GDPR and Accessibility.

Any experience of developing web-apps, HTML and CSS would be advantageous.

The work will be varied; you will work on a multitude of different projects and you will have a commitment to keeping abreast of relevant pedagogic and technological developments relevant to technology-enhancedlearning.

You’ll be allocated a mentor, to support your technical development.


Key Skills:

  •  Development - Experience of software and database development.
  • Technical Skills – PHP, Microsoft SQL Server/MySQL. Experience of consuming or producing APIs would be advantageous.
  • Communication – You will need to demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly with both technical specialists and non-technical business leads.
  • Teamwork -The Application Development and Support (ADS) team supports and develops several core business systems such as student systems, teaching and learning systems, data systems and core business systems. You will be working with system developers across these disciplines to ensure seamless integrations.
