Description

Vacancies for External Members of the University Council (Governing Body)

The University of Gloucestershire is different. We are a vibrant and successful institution, with a unique identity and a depth of experience that supports students from many different backgrounds. Our Council, staff and students share their passions, academic interests and goals to create more successful futures.

The University Council is seeking to appoint several new non-executive External Members as existing Members come to the end of their terms of office during 2020.

Applications are invited from individuals with a strong personal commitment to higher education and the success of our students and staff; with a successful track record of leadership and achievement in their professional lives; with an understanding of the leadership and management challenges in large, complex organisations; and experience of non-executive roles at Board level.

The primary responsibilities of Council include setting the mission and strategy of the University, monitoring institutional performance to ensure financial sustainability and the achievement of the University’s goals, and ensuring sound corporate governance. The role is not remunerated, although reasonable expenses are reimbursed, and we have prepared a statement about the broader benefits you can expect to gain as a Council member, including the opportunity to build a larger, more diverse network, and to engage in something of real value.

We are committed to advancing equality and valuing diversity in all of the University’s practices. To support this, we particularly welcome applications from people who can enhance the diversity of the Council’s membership.

Further details on how to apply can be obtained from: Mrs Penny Gravestock, Assistant Secretary to Council, University of Gloucestershire, The Park, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL50 2RH. Email: pennygravestock@glos.ac.uk, Tel: 01242 714184.

The closing date for applications is noon on Wednesday, 18 December 2019. Interviews will be held on 28 and 29 January 2020.
