This collaborative project between Sport England, the University of
Gloucestershire and Oxford Brookes University aims to evaluate the impact of a
coach education programme designed to increase the knowledge and confidence of
teachers and coaches to deliver a bespoke programme (Boing) designed to support
the physical literacy journey of young people.
A studentship (payment of full-time fees for 3 years, plus an annual
bursary to support research costs incurred) is being offered as part of an
external research grant from Sport England. The grant will support the
development of a bespoke workshop designed to increase the confidence and
knowledge of coaches and teachers in delivering physical literacy curricula
(Boing). More
details on the BOING project can be found at www.boingkids.co.uk The project delivery and evaluation will take place over a two-year
period and will be in collaboration with a number of sporting and physical
activity organisations. The research student will become part of the evaluation
team, working alongside colleagues to assess the impact and efficacy of the
project whilst completing their PhD. Applications are invited for a three-year full-time
research studentship to undertake this doctoral work.
The studentship will be supervised by Professor Mark De Ste Croix, Dr
Colin Baker and Mr Will Roberts (University of Gloucestershire). It is anticipated that the position will
commence 1st February 2020.
The School of Sport and
Exercise would welcome applications from individuals who have the following
qualifications, interests or experiences:

first or upper
second class (or equivalent) degree in a related subject area (e.g. coach
education, physical education, sports science, strength and conditioning,
physiology, biomechanics);
·
demonstrable interests in coach education with
some experience in this area an advantage
·
experience of working with external partners for
data collection purposes.
·
familiarity of quantitative and qualitative data
analysis including use of Excel, SPSS, NVivo
·
knowledge of the RE-AIM Framework is an
advantage
