Description

Sustainability Operations Manager

The University of Gloucestershire has an established strategic commitment to sustainability and an outstanding reputation for pioneering institution-wide sustainability development.

In 2019 the University was named the most sustainable university in the UK, in the People and Planet league table of all UK universities. Sustainability is one of the pillars in the University’s Strategic Plan 2017-2022 and is a high level KPI reported annually by the Vice Chancellor to University Council.

The Sustainability Operations Manager is responsible for advancing sustainability practice and performance across the University and its core operations. In 2018 we completed a major estates development programme and we are now planning the next phase of sustainability improvements to our estate and infrastructure in Cheltenham and Gloucester. To lead us in this process we are looking for someone who thrives on creating innovation and finding solutions that demonstrate good long-term business decision-making for sustainability.

You will have strong expertise in energy and carbon management, to develop a new carbon strategy and ambition for the University in line with the move towards net zero emissions. We are keen to explore new frontiers around ‘smart campus’ solutions for sustainability, identifying best practice and developing creative approaches through collaboration with internal stakeholders. You will be an experienced environmental manager, able to manage and improve our ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System, report on key sustainability metrics to track progress and advise on sustainability improvements across our professional services functions.

You will combine excellent technical insight and practical sustainability knowledge with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead change, engage colleagues and influence thinking across the organization at all levels. You will be joining a small and dynamic team that works closely with staff, students and partners across all areas of the University to achieve strategic objectives.

The University offers a generous benefits package, including 37 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), and further training and career development opportunities.

For an informal discussion about this role please contact Dr Alex Ryan, Director of Sustainability at aryan@glos.ac.uk
