Sustainability Operations Manager

Our Sustainability Strategy 2017-22 has seen notable successes such as our recent rise to 1st place in the 2019 People and Planet league table of all UK universities in sustainability. Sustainability is well supported as one of the pillars in the University’s Strategic Plan 2017-2022 and is a high level KPI reported annually by the Vice Chancellor to University Council.
The Sustainability Operations Manager is responsible for improving sustainability practice and performance across the University and its core operations. In 2018 we completed our major estates development programme and we are now are looking to take sustainability improvements forward across our estate and infrastructure in Cheltenham and Gloucester. We are looking for someone who thrives on creating innovation and finding solutions within existing budgets that demonstrate good business decision-making for sustainability.
You will have strong expertise in energy and carbon management, with the ability to implement our Carbon Management Plan and improve performance, working with our Estates and IT teams. We are also keen to explore new frontiers around ‘smart campus’ developments for sustainability, identifying best practice and developing creative solutions aligned to space management and smart working practices.
You will also be an experienced environmental manager, able to lead, maintain and improve our ISO 14001: 2015 Environmental Management System. You will report on key sustainability metrics to track and communicate progress to stakeholders, and advise on sustainability improvements across our professional services functions.
You will combine excellent technical insight and practical sustainability knowledge with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead change, engage colleagues and influence thinking across the organization at all levels. You will be joining a fast-paced, dynamic, small team that works closely with staff, students and partners across all areas of the University, so the ability to work collaboratively to achieve shared objectives is essential.
