Description
JOINT
ENVIRONMENT AGENCY AND UNIVERSITY OF GLOUCESTERSHIRE STUDENTSHIP
Assessing the impact of farming practices on soil functions: achieving
benefits for soil, water quality and flow and the farm business.
Applications are invited for a three year jointly-funded
Environment Agency and University of Gloucestershire research studentship from
graduates who have completed or are completing an RT (Research Training)
recognised advanced (Masters) course in a relevant natural or social science
discipline.
This research builds on the idea of integrated catchment
management at the farm-scale and it is anticipated that it will adopt an
interdisciplinary approach. The PhD aims to develop and undertake an
appropriate methodology to understand the impact of crop and soil management
practices on soil functions in the farmed environment, specifically on water
quality and regulated water flow and the cost effectiveness of crop
production. It also aims to incorporate
social science methods to evaluate farmers’ views and experiences of the
environmental, and farm business, benefit delivered by such farming
practices.
Informal
